On 3rd march 2012 Mark Tedder held the first Sunrise Blokart racing series in Muizenberg Cape Town SA -
The day dawned with light and variable winds coming from the east. The Blokart sailors were all gathered by 9h15 to get racing underway to start in the 2 classes. Sailing had to be postponed due to lack of wind which finally arrived around 11h00 from the NW. The under 85kgs class started proceedings with Alan Gie and Zade Boniface slugging it out for the No 1 spot, going to Alan Gie in a 7 heat series followed closely with Birthday Boy William Jenkins in a rental kart taking the last podium position Result 1) Alan Gie 2) Zade Boniface 3) William Jenkins 4) Lloyd Payne 5) Elrand James.
In the Vintage class not the age of the karts but the age of the participants it was the visitor from Knysna Dave Davies taking the 5 race series with a great diplay of fine sailing; well done Dave. However I feel he should have being handicapped as he weighs at least 10kgs lighter than the rest of the competitors.
Results 1) Dave Davies 2) Mark Tedder 3)Rick Heydenrych 4) Peter Salomons.
All in all a great day's Blokart sailing and was the first one of the year with continued racing every month throughout the year. New courses were set and made for some exciting racing and tacking at various marks around the courre. A very nice lunch was enjoyed by all at “Cooked” on the Muizenberg beachfront. Thanks to all that joined in and sailed and to parents and friends that came down to share in the experience and a special thanks to Shireen Smith who did a sterling Job as our Race Officer for the day.
Here's to the SA champs in April - look forward to seeing all again next month for more thrills
After the racing was finished the Sunrise Blokart Sailing Club was established with Mark Tedder being voted in as chairman with Susan Gie and Karen Tedder being voted in as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
